Our NAPLAN practice tests are free, online and built from real NAPLAN questions, so your child can practise in the same on-screen format they’ll use on test day. Each test gives instant feedback with a worked explanation for every question, and your child can retake it as many times as they like. Choose a year level below to get started.

Reading, numeracy and language conventions
Real NAPLAN has four tests: writing, reading, conventions of language and numeracy. Our practice tests focus on the three that use multiple-choice and short-answer questions, which suit instant online marking. For writing, use our NAPLAN writing guide and free writing prompts.
| Test | Real test time (Year 5) | What to practise |
|---|---|---|
| Numeracy | 50 minutes | Number, measurement, geometry, statistics, problem solving |
| Reading | 50 minutes | Finding information, inference, vocabulary in context |
| Conventions of language | 45 minutes | Spelling, grammar, punctuation |
How our practice tests work
- Free: every practice test is free. Create a free account to start and save your progress.
- Instant feedback: after each answer your child sees whether it’s right, with a short explanation.
- Unlimited retakes: questions are in the same order each time so you can compare attempts.
- No time limit by default: start untimed, then set your own timer to match the real test.
- Real questions: our first tests use questions from released NAPLAN papers.
Tips for practising without stress
- Keep sessions short: 20 to 30 minutes is plenty for primary school children.
- Praise effort and strategy, not just the score.
- Review wrong answers together and ask “How did you work that out?”
- Practise every few weeks rather than cramming before March. See the NAPLAN 2027 test dates.
- Try ACARA’s public demonstration site too, so the online tools feel familiar.
Practice test FAQs
Are these the same as real NAPLAN tests?
Our first tests use real released NAPLAN questions. The real online test is tailored, so questions get harder or easier based on your child’s answers; our practice tests use a fixed set of questions so you can track progress.
How often should my child do a practice test?
Every two to four weeks in the lead-up to NAPLAN is enough. More isn’t better, and ACARA advises against excessive preparation.
Do I need to pay?
No. All practice tests on this page are free.
